PCOD in Ayurveda: Healing the Root, Not Just the Symptoms

As an Ayurvedic doctor, I do not begin my treatment with medicines. I begin with understanding the person.

Every patient who walks into my clinic carries a story of physical discomfort, emotional stress, hormonal imbalance, lifestyle struggles, and hidden fears. Ayurveda teaches us that disease does not happen overnight. It develops slowly, silently, when the body, mind, and routine fall out of balance.

In Ayurveda, we don’t ask “What disease do you have?” We ask, “Why did it happen to you?”

The foundation of Ayurvedic treatment lies in studying a person’s Prakriti (natural constitution) and Dosha balance (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). No two individuals are the same. That is why Ayurveda follows the timeless principle:

“Purusham Purusham Vikshya”

means "Treat every individual according to their unique nature."

This means one medicine can never suit everyone.

When women come with PCOD, irregular periods, infertility, weight gain, acne, hair fall, or mood swings, Ayurveda does not treat them as “one condition.” We study ovulation patterns, hormonal imbalance, digestion, metabolism, mental health, and tissue strength.

For example:

--To improve ovulation, we use Beejajanana Chikitsa

--To reduce ovarian cysts, we apply Lekhana and Granthihara therapies

--For hormonal balance and regular cycles, Rajapravartana Chikitsa is planned

--For weight loss and metabolism, the Sthoulya Lekhana treatment is used

--For acne (Tarunya Pitika), hair fall, and baldness, we correct androgen imbalance and nourish hair roots

--For mood swings, anxiety, and depression, we prescribe Medhya Rasayana and mind-strengthening therapies

Ayurveda does not fight the body. It teaches the body how to heal itself.

Treatment is never limited to medicines. It includes:

--Personalized diet

--Lifestyle correction

--Yoga, Pranayama, and Meditation

--Panchakarma therapies like Basti (medicated enemas), which work deeply in PCOD and hormonal disorders

Special Basti therapies help in detoxification, blood purification, uterine cleansing, and menstrual regulation.

Many women today suffer from low hemoglobin and weak blood formation, leading to scanty periods and fatigue. Ayurveda strengthens digestion and absorption so that nutrition reaches every cell.

PCOD itself has many types, some with obesity, some without, some with heavy bleeding, some with delayed cycles, and some with no visible symptoms. Each type requires a different treatment plan.

Ayurveda is not a shortcut. It is a roadmap to lasting health.

Before starting any treatment, we perform:

--Nadi Pariksha (Pulse Examination)

--Dashavidha Pariksha (Tenfold Examination)

--Complete lifestyle and mental assessment

Only then do we prescribe medicines.

“PCOD is not a taboo. It does not mean you are sick. It simply means your body needs a little more care and understanding. And Ayurveda offers simple, natural, and effective solutions for that. When you learn to listen to your body, PCOD or PCOS will never control your life.”
